Hope Persists

Emily Dickinson is a poet known and loved by all. Her poems inspire people and even over 130 years after her death they still hold meaning. Her Poem “Hope is the Thing with the Feathers” in particular is timeless and what many need to hear in times like these.

Typography as emotion.

Tasked with creating a typographic quote poster, I had too many ideas to choose from. Out of the different quotes, song lyrics, and poems that came to me, “Hope is the Thing with the Feathers” was one that I really wanted to do but initially thought would be too long. After sketching it out, however, I found that it wasn’t impossible after all. I did go through many iterations and different fonts to get to the final poster though.

Extending Reach

When showing my mother the final quote poster and translating the quote into Spanish for her, the idea of translating the poem into a whole Spanish version came to mind. And to make it more of a set rather than a pair, I translated it a third time into French. To separate the 3 posters even further I gave each poster its own color. The standard yellowed paper color for English,  a red tone for Spanish, and a green tone for French.

Reflection

When diners eat at a high-end restaurant, they know what to expect; small tables, even smaller portions, classical music, candle-lit ambiance, and a high price tag. 4theRecord wants to be more than that. 4theRecord wants to be the kind of place where you’re not just here for the portions you are here for the entire experience.  4theRecord is a culinary experience, a concert, and an art exhibit all in one.
